Friday Five: Fitness Snapshots (Week 19 of IM Training)

I can’t believe we’re reaching the end of Week 19 of Ironman Louisville training! Week 19!! That means we only have 6 weeks left until race day! To celebrate reaching this point in training I decided to join Mar from Mar on the Run!, Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What?! for Friday Five!


Here’s what Week 19 of Ironman Training looked like:

Mt.Vernon Trail Long RunOn Sunday, I headed out for a 16-mile run. It was definitely the worst run of my life, because it was hot and I slowed down more and more every mile (and battled some mental demons), but I got it done and I got to see some awesome sights running the Mt.Vernon trail from Alexandria to DC.

I rewarded my hard work with a homemade watermelon greek yogurt popsicle and my favorite pink PRO compression socks.

Tuesday I rode way too long on the trainer. I’m not a fan of riding the trainer, but I was sick Saturday and had to skip my long ride, so rescheduled it for a week day. I had work to do and the weather was dicey, so I decided my only option was to jump on the trainer! Don’t ask me how long I was on there, but I did work, watched a webinar and also watched some Orange Is the New Black.

I also almost forgot to work out. Who FORGETS to work out?! Thanks Cynthia for the reminder! As soon as I saw her on the trainer, I jumped on mine and followed it up with some midnight strength training!

Today it was time to run and  I wasn’t feeling it, so I decided to have some fun and finally pulled on the socks Pablo got me for Valentine’s Day. Nothing like some Wonder Woman socks to get you motivated!


Tomorrow I have my first 2.4 mile swim at Swim For Life! WOAH 2.4 miles. Maybe not a good idea that I’ve skipped some swim workouts this week!  I don’t have a picture of tomorrow yet (DUH!), but here’s a bonus fun throwback to the day I met Cynthia out at a DC Tri Training Triathlon and Swim Clinic.

  1. That’s a full week! I’m excited for our nice weather this weekend, but it will be even nicer mid-week. It is such a treat when it’s not too humid.

  2. I love your recovery mode. And those socks are totally BA. I am supposed to do 16 mi this weekend, but am pushing it to tomorrow because of rain all day today. C’mon body, don’t let me down!

  3. I’m visiting from the Friday five link up 🙂 I love those Wonder Woman socks! The Mt. Vernon trail looks beautiful. I haven’t had a chance to try that one yet.

  4. What a way to push through your long run in the hot, humid conditions. I actually moved my last two long runs to the treadmill because it had become so, so hot here in Raleigh and I am not training for a hot race (like you are). Also, I love the trainer, but doing long rides on it it so tough! I too try to pick some cool shows/movie to watch to help pass the time. My friend let me borrow some DVDs of several Kona broadcasts and those were perfect to watch while training! Also, I love the Raleigh 70.3 hat! I think they are better than those ones we got last year!

    • Thank you! Ah yes, I love NC. We lived there for a while, but that NC summer heat! Long runs on the treadmill are so hard too! I def said I’d never do super long rides on the trainer, but sometimes you just have to get the workout in!
      I love my hat! Took a while to get it, but was worth the wait. I loved Raleigh 70.3 and hope to go back next year!
